Explore Galle Fort’s maze of cobblestone roadways lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea; the lighthouse, and several old churches including the Dutch Reformed Church and All Saints Church.
Browse around the small boutiques and shops; museums and art galleries. There is a growing collection of boutique hotels with excellent fine dining restaurants or stop by for a sandwich at Pedlar’s Inn which is just two doors down or one of the other small cafes. There are several good beaches just outside of Galle Fort including Unawawtuna Bay, Mirissa, and Hikkaduwa. Experience Unawatuna’s youthful lifestyle and the rustic beach bars and restaurants. Visit the Rhumassala Temple with beautiful views stretching out over the Indian Ocean. A walk around the headland near the temple is very special. Famed for the natural medicinal herbs nearby you will walk through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on “Jungle Beach”- a little-known and secluded beach.
